"It’s Never Too Late."

May 29, 2023

The New York Times has created a new series focused on mid-lifers and beyond pursuing their dreams. The first story was about a woman who learned how to swim at age 68. It’s an encouraging story about resourcefulness and resilience. In the interview she says, “Finally I decided if I don’t try, it’s never going to happen.”

It’s so clear from this story that trying something new has all kinds of collateral benefits in one’s life.

But, what often gets in our way is the following bumper sticker in our head: "I'm too old to (fill in the blank)."

Here’s MEA’s answer to that "bummer sticker": What do you know or can you do now that you wish you’d known or could have done ten years ago? Once you’ve lodged something in your mind, ask yourself: What will I regret ten years from now if I don’t learn it now? This is how I started learning Spanish two years ago. It wasn’t going to be any easier in my late 60’s, ten years from when I started in my late 50’s.

The NY Times is looking for people who decide that it’s never too late to switch gears, change their life and pursue dreams. You can share your story here. Or you can send Wisdom Well a 500-word guest post to be published on our daily blog.
