As they get older, they become less prickly (don’t you wish your cranky uncle was like that!), more smooth, and - quite curiously - grow young, vibrant, new arms while other crinkly arms fall to the ground. A perfect specimen of the cycle of life and death, all in one gigantic, sturdy plant.
